Kathleen Buckingham

KATHLEEN LEARNS ABOUT SOCIAL JUSTICE AT UMASS-AMHERST WHERE SHE MAJORS IN SOCIAL THOUGHTS AND POLITICAL ECONOMY. HER PASSION ON SOCIAL JUSTICE DRIVES HER TO GET INVOLVED WITH THE PUBLIC HIGHER EDUCATION NETWORK OF MASSACHUSETTS (PHENOM), AN ORGANIZATION THAT ADVOCATED FOR AN AFFORDABLE AND ACCESSIBLE HIGHER EDUCATION.

AS A TRANSFER STUDENT IN UMASS AND HAVING EXPERIENCED ATTENDING PACE UNIVERSITY, A PRIVATE INSTITUTION, KATHLEEN ACCUMULATES QUITE A DEBT OVER HER UNDERGRADUATE STUDIES. DRIVEN BY HER PERSONAL EXPERIENCE, HER DAILY LIFE IS DIVIDED BETWEEN SCHOOL AND HER ACTIVISM ON CAMPUS.

SHE IS NOT PAYING BACK HER LOANS YET, FOCUSING MAINLY ON HER STUDIES AND EDUCATION RIGHT NOW, BUT SHE KNOWS THE PRESSURE FOR BEING IN DEBT AS A STUDENT WILL SOON START COMING PRESSING HER YOUNG SHOULDERS.
